“Allow Myself to introduce… myself.”

Hey friends! A pretty funny thing happened a few days ago. I’m talking funny strange, and also funny ha ha.

I had to re-introduce myself to one of my friends. It’s someone who I don’t get to see face-to-face very often. In fact, I seriously can’t remember the last time I saw her face in person.

But, she was posting on Facebook asking for some marketing advice and opinions about managing her small businesses email list. When I offered my two cents, and asked why she just didn’t call her marketing guy, namely me, she replied “You? Marketing guy?”

It got me thinking about what parts of ourselves we (and social media) allow each other to see and know.

Some of you know me as a career performing musician and DJ. Some of you know that I run a little online shop, selling vintage housewares and kitchenwares. Some of you just like to see my hot takes on parenting, and homemade English muffins. (see post from this weekend!) And, some of you know me as a marketer, web designer, publicist, event designer, and any other number of hats,

In addition to all the things I was already doing in life, (namely teaching music at a private school, working at an art gallery, opening a coffee shop several times a week, and trying to get my band signed to a record label) I fell into a career in marketing nearly 25 years ago, Since then, I’ve been working with individuals and businesses of all types and sizes since then, on a variety of projects centered around their individual needs.

Honestly, since the advent of social media, I have tried to be more focused and genuine about my work on behalf of others and their projects. I’m not an “influencer,” nor do I pretend to be. I don’t believe that to be an essential, or even productive, part of being a marketer of other peoples’ work.

Over the past several months, I’ve worked on web redesigns, holiday email campaigns, and I am presently working on building a brand new site for a nutrition consultancy business. With the relaunch of this site, I hope to better illustrate how I use my varied experiences to work on behalf of others and their passion projects.

My views on marketing, promotion, advertising, events, media production, and web/social media are different than most, if not all, of my peers. This is a direct reflection of the fact that my experience is different than many, as well. In fact, it’s downright weird.

Is your project, product, and business unique? Do you need to get the engine running, and keep it going? My specialty is inspiring others towards meaningful action.

Now, back to this discussion of what we and our social media allow each other to know about each other.

I used to be a wicked hair farmer. It was well before the days of social media, so the only photos that exist are ones that I’ve deliberately posted. Back in my teens and early 20s, when I was trying to sign a record deal with my former band, my hair was as much a part of my identity as any other thing. Here is photo proof.

What is it that I/we all have missed about you? What is one thing that might be under-represented, or misunderstood about yourself in your online life that you want to clarify?

Let’s talk.
